Books on the Wall, the company that offers full-text posters of classic novels, has created a nifty visual that connects almost 30 famous writers based on how they influenced each other.

According to the chart, besides Shakespeare, it’s Fyodor Dostoyevsky, James Joyce, and William Faulkner who left their mark in the works of the largest number of writers.

All artists, including writers, are influenced by their peers and forebears, knowingly or not. We love the literary “circle of life” that results; in creating his or her own work, every author expresses something that connects with and inspires someone one else to create something new.
