Books have the great power to encourage the mind to do things beyond ability and imagination. Books inspire not only thinkers and leaders but also artists.

Malena Valcárcel is a talented artist living in Alicante, on the on the Mediterranean Coast of Spain.
For years, Malena was using paper as a material and inspiration. From the pages of discarded books, she creates unique pieces of jewelry, paper flowers, and beautiful book scupltures.
We’ve seen some fantastic examples of turning a book into a piece or art. What’s highly original about the works by Malena Valcárcel is that these sculptures are in fact little landscapes that are full of life and energy.
Let’s take as an example A Field of Poppies. The sculpture will make a great home decor. It could be placed in a home library, living room, or – this is my favorite place – a bedroom. Imagine having it on a bedside cabinet, standing behind a cup of coffee and the book you currently read.
What’s more, some of the Valcárcel’s book sculptures come equipped with led lights. The book scene, when lit from inside or behind, looks especially cozy, and reminds me of the best moments spent with a book.
These book sculptures can be bought on Etsy, but they are not cheap. Going to a Town costs a little above $300. My favorite sculpture, Go Back To That Magic Time, is $500. For The Tree of Butterflies, you’ll have to pay $140.
