Simple Touch covers fit Nook GlowLight (pictures)

Nook Simple Touch Glowlight - image 1Although this is not officially confirmed by Barnes&Noble, the example below clearly shows that Simple Touch covers fit Nook GlowLight as well.

Under the post that lists best available Nook GlowLight covers, one of the readers, Kevin, shared a few extremely interesting pictures.

These pictures, shown below, are more than enough to believe that the any original B&N case designed for Nook Simple Touch can handle the GlowLight.

As Kevin says: “It’s not a true fit but it is snug enough for me to be comfortable with it in there.”

The reason why Simple Touch covers are not officially approved for the Nook GlowLight is that the older model is being held in place using special clips. To match these clips there are special cut-outs in the Simple Touch bezel – either on the left or right side (see picture below).

Nook Simple Touch clip to hold a device in place

There are no such cut-outs in the Nook GlowLight. This makes the Simple Touch clip system useless – well, theoretically. Because there is the other factor, that, maybe by pure coincidence, helps the new device fit the old case.

The GlowLight is by 0.05″ (1.2 mm) thinner than Simple Touch. Thanks to that the clips go above the bezel.

Does this idea work? The pictures clearly show that the GlowLight doesn’t slide out from the Simple Touch case. As Kevin says “it is snug enough.” On the other side, sharp edges of the holding clips don’t look like being designed for the new device.

Barnes&Noble doesn’t give a large choice of GlowLight covers. On the official Nook GlowLight Accessories page you’ll find:

  • the new Clip Cover in three colors (red, lilac, grey). It’s supposed to be the Apple Smart Cover for Nook, but taking users’ reviews in mind, this cover is far from being perfect,
  • Neoprene Case in two colors (black and turquoise). It’s been already there for Simple Touch. It’s not a book-style design. You have to take out the e-reader in order to use it.
