A Moscow-based design studio Kru Kru offers hand-crafted bags that look like magnified hardcover books.
If you were looking for a book-themed purse, you must have seen repurposed book clutches from Novel Creations. The bags crafted by Kru Kru are different. They are fully functional but designed in such a way that they look like books.
So, you’ll have a full-size flap that imitates the front cover. The sides of the bag are sewn several times what resembles book pages. The strap can be fully hidden inside the bag.
Currently, there are 36 designs in the collection. You’ll find here such classics as Frankenstein, Jane Eyre, To Kill A Mockingbird , or Little Price. There are also a few books from Russian authors: Alexander Pushkin, Fyodor Dostoyevsky, and Anton Chekhov.
The bags are made either from genuine leather (for instance, Harry Potter) or Spanish water resistant felt (check out Wizard of Oz). You can customize some felt bags by picking up a different wool color.
Obviously, the bags have the proportions of the typical book. They vary in size – and it’s where you have to be careful. The width is no smaller than 23 cm and no bigger than 28 cm, so the bags will be perfect for your books, but too small to carry A4 documents.
All the bags have an adjustable strap with a maximum length of 124 cm (49 in) and close with two magnetic clasps. Each bag is interlined with cotton fabric and has an inside pocket. The prices start at $125.
The best thing about literary bags from Kru Kru Studio is that they can craft the bag right for your needs, based on the book cover you pick up (it doesn’t need to be in English).
Simply, head to Kru Kru Studio’s shop on Etsy, and in the left sidebar click on “Request Custom Order” button. Send the title, author, and the link to cover art, and you will be contacted back by shop owners with the details.
