The reading readiness screening is not a standard procedure, but it’s crucial to spot potential risk factors influencing reading abilities.

According to Nemours, a nonprofit organization committed to improving the health of children, the most important factors that might cause reading problems are:

  • low parental reading level,
  • dual language learning environment,
  • preschool language disorder,
  • attentional, behavioral, or emotional problems,
  • lack of exposure to language materials.

Nemours has prepared the infographic that highlights most common challenges our kids might face if they are not ready to read. The visual lists also activities that set foundation for future reading success.
