The new infographic from Adzuna, a search engine for job ads, puts the lives of famous authors in a bit different light.

If someone seriously wants to write, she or he can be inspired (or at least can’t get overwhelmed) by the day job that is pretty common: a teacher, a salesman, or an office manager.

J.K. Rowling, Stephen King, George R.R. Martin, or Dan Brown were all teachers. Joseph Heller worked as a copywriter. Gabriel Garcia Marquez was a journalist. The importance of their previous jobs in their writing careers is rather obvious.

Would John Grisham even have picked up a pen if it wasn’t for a career that brought him into the courtroom?

Could Bram Stoker have written Dracula if he wasn’t inspired by an actor at the theater he managed?
