Classic book covers come to life again in a series of animated gifs (pictures)

Animated book covers - Moby-DickThe books we had read in our childhood live in our memories, and when you think a bit longer about it, you may see these memories are the living motion pictures, and not still images.

That’s why I so much adore the book project by a Chilean designer and art director Javier Jensen.

He added subtle animations to his favorite book covers, including The Little Prince, Moby-Dick, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, or The Great Gatsby.

Yes, you are right, the eyes on the cover of The Great Gatsby are closing. But this is the most noticeable movement introduced by the artist. Other animations are so elusive that they amazingly reflect how these book covers live in our minds.

In an interview with The Guardian, Jensen said that he “wanted to go back to the books that made us live, dream and believe in different things and reflect what I always imagined when I looked at their covers.”

I don’t know about you, but I’ve got the appetite for more book cover artwork from Javier Jensen, and a desire to re-read the books I’ve just seen.
