What is the best book of 2018, according to Amazon editors?

It’s Educated by Tara Westover, a stirring memoir that chronicles how she survived her survivalist upbringing, eventually earning a Ph.D. from Cambridge University.

Chris Schluep, Amazon Senior Book Editor, says about the No. 1 book of 2018:

Tara Westover’s Educated is a rare gem of a memoir – it surprises and inspires, and we want to tell everyone: read this book!

It’s worth mentioning that Educated was already the No. 1 pick on the list of Amazon Best Books of 2018 So Far, revealed before summer.

The No. 2 book of 2018, according to Amazon book editors, is Esi Edugyan’s novel Washington Black, a finalist for the Man Booker Prize. It’s an inventive page-turner that tells the story of a boy who rises from the ashes of slavery to become a free man of the world.

The true story of the worst sea disaster in US naval history, Indianapolis by Lynn Vincent and Sara Vladic, takes the third position. In July 1945, USS Indianapolis was sailing alone in the Philippine Sea when she was struck by Japanese torpedoes. The new book is not only a sinking tale. It’s a human drama unlike any other, “telling stories of willpower bending and sanity breaking.”

How are the books selected for Amazon Best Books of the Year?

Book editors at Amazon read and review hundreds of books a year. Every month, in a series of meetings, the editorial team selects the list of Best Books of the Month.

Monthly picks automatically become entries for the annual list. Plus, the editors pick up the most interesting titles that have been released in October or early November.
