His most notable library work is a theory called Five laws of library science, which sets up the principles of operating a library system. In short, these laws are:

  1. Books are for use.
  2. Every reader her or his book.
  3. Every book its reader.
  4. Save the time of the reader.
  5. The library is a growing organism.

University of Southern California has visualized Dr. Ranganathan’s library laws in a recent infographic. A great reference for students, librarians, and library patrons.
