Read for Good – donate $1 to Worldreader and get $30 off Kobo Aura

Worldreader and Kobo read for good

Worldreader is a San Francisco based non-profit organization with a mission to bring digital books to children in developing countries.

So far, Worldreader has distributed almost 1 million e-books in nine African countries. Titles available for download range from classic literature to world newspapers, but not only. Worldreader’s curated collection of over 6,000 books includes a growing number of African titles – from Chika Unigwe, Roald Dahl, Nancy Drew, and Mary Pope Osborne, among other authors.

80% of the developing world is using featured phones. That’s why Worldreader, in cooperation with Sydney-based app developer biNu, has created a special mobile app, working on featured and Android phones, that lets readers pick up a book from a collection and read it instantly.

The effort to fight illiteracy is worth every penny. In less than 5 months children show significant improvements in reading fluency and comprehension.

There are many ways to support Worldreader. We wrote already about A Case for Good (support by buying an e-reader case).

Currently, together with Kobo, Worldreader is running another good cause campaign. Donate $1 to fight illiteracy in low income countries, and you’ll get a $30 discount on Kobo Aura.

The promotion is held via YouGive1 site. Immediately after you make $1 donation to Worldreader, you will see a unique coupon code that you can use to get the $30 off Aura e-reader (worth $139.99) at Kobo website. The campaign will expire on June 22, 2014.
