Writers create pictures, situations, and entire worlds from letters, words, and sentences. Don’t they deserve the same?

Dublin-based typographist and graphic designer Paul Breen decided to accept the challenge. He creates unique portraits of famous authors, including Oscar Wilde, Harper Lee, William Shakespeare, and James Joyce.
Why are these portraits so fascinating? Because the only tool he uses to form shapes is letters and punctuation marks.
Take a closer look at the layouts, and you’ll immediately realize how cleverly they are made.
For each portrait, Paul Breen is using as little letters as possible. But the real challenge is that the picture must include letters from the author’s name.
You can not only admire the portraits on a computer screen. They can be ordered on Etsy, the leading marketplace for artistic, hand-crafted goods.
The Type Writers collection consists of almost 40 items. Besides writers, you can also find here famous figures from pop culture, including David Bowie, Jim Morrison, and Bruce Springsteen.
Each artwork is available on a black unisex t-shirt, in sizes from S to 3XL. T-shirts come from Fruit of the Loom and are made from 100% cotton Belcoroyarn fabric. The portrait is printed on the front. There is also a cool orange Type Writers logo on a right sleeve. Prices are set at $29.95.
If you want to hang the layout on a wall, you can order a poster instead. The size is 420 × 594 mm / 16.5 × 23.4 in, and the layout is printed on a premium 180 gsm semi-gloss paper.
