The Mawei Shipbuilding Library is a unique and innovative library that celebrates the history and culture of shipbuilding in Fuzhou.
The Mawei Shipbuilding Library is a new public library in Fuzhou, China. It was designed by WJ Design and is located in the Mawei district, which has a long history of shipbuilding.
The library is intended to serve as a starting point and physical space for shipbuilding culture in the city.
The exterior is made of concrete and glass. Concrete walls are textured to resemble the hulls of ships. The glass walls allow natural light to flood into the library, symbolizing the light of knowledge and learning.
The interior of the library is also designed with shipbuilding in mind. For instance, the staircase resembles the rigging of a ship, and the reading room is designed to resemble the captain’s quarters.
The Mawei Shipbuilding Library is located on a 2,800 square meter site. It has a total floor area of 2,500 square meters, and includes an event space, as well as a children’s area.
The library holds over 100,000 books, with many of them focusing on shipbuilding, history, and culture.
