Look at this beauty – a first 3D-printed book cover (pictures)

First 3D-printed book cover - picture 1

We hear about 3D printing here and there, and it was just a matter of time to see a beauty of the 3D combined with a beauty of a book.

The first 3D-printed book is here! It was designed by Helen Yentus, art director from Riverhead Books, a publishing house that has just announced the book.

The 3D element is in fact a slip case. Made on a MakerBot Replicator 2 Desktop 3D Printer, it gives the 3rd dimension (and a lot of buzz) to a limited edition of Chang-Rae Lee’s novel On Such a Full Sea, Amazon’s Best Book of January 2014.

Helen Yentus says:

The sleek design is fitting for a novel that takes place in the future. “We’re looking for new ways to present our books that give people the opportunity to have something to hold onto that’s not available in digital form
