Minimalist Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ cover photos for a book lover

The head is empty without books - Facebook header

Recently I was thinking of how to creatively support two major events for book lovers happening this week.

One is World Book Day 2013. Designated by UNESCO, it’s a worldwide celebration of books and reading, happening this year in over 100 countries on March 7. A main goal of World Book Day is to encourage children to explore the pleasures of books by providing them with the opportunity to have a book of their own.

The other event started already on Sunday. It’s Read an Ebook Week 2013 (March 3 – 9), the international literary event organized for the 10th time by Canadian author and designer Rita Toews. The event brings together ebook authors, publishers and avid readers. During that week only lots of ebook titles are being offered for free or at highly reduced prices. All that is designed to encourage book lovers around the world to give ebooks a try.

From several ideas I had, the one you see above by far beats the rest. Ebooks are not a threat to print books. Books in every possible form – no matter whether it’s print, digital, enhanced or audio – are facing a much bigger challenge: social media. We spend more and more time on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, or YouTube. The time spent there is lost for reading.

Obviously, we can argue how much one can learn from Facebook comments or YouTube videos. For me, books are, and will ever be, the best and most enjoyable way to get filled with knowledge and emotions.

Feel free to use the header on your Facebook profile or page. You can download it from below – click on an image to open a media file and save it to disc. It has exact proportions of a Facebook cover photo area.

There are also Twitter and Google+ cover images as well.

If you liked the idea, please spread the word! Thanks!
