Each character comes with a three factors:

– Alignment (hero, villain, anti-hero)
– Species (for instance: fairy, atlantean, titan, deity)
– Powers (for instance: psychic, born with powers, enhanced, accidental or mutant powers, etc.)

The visual is just a tip of the iceberg in the expansive Marvel universe that spans comics, movies, television shows, video games, and other media.

How did it all start?

Pulp-magazine publisher Martin Goodman started the company later known as Marvel Comics under the name Timely Publications in 1939, and indirectly created an entire universe of now-famous Marvel Comics characters.
