When launched in September 2015, the $49 Amazon Fire tablet was only available in one color (black), and with one storage option (8 GB).

Until today. Amazon has just announced improvements to their fastest-selling 7-inch Fire tablet.
Starting today, you can buy the $49.99 Amazon Fire 7:
- in one of four colors: black, magenta, blue, or tangerine,
- in one of two storage options: 8 GB or 16 GB.
The three new colors are the same as in a bigger and better Amazon Fire HD 8. Picking up any of the funky colors doesn’t affect the price. You’ll still pay $49.99, just like for the black version.
When it comes to storage, 8 GB for a device that’s designed for watching videos and playing games might be not enough to have opened apps function properly. Especially that the space available for a user is a mere 4.5 GB.
You can now choose the version with a bigger storage. You will have 11.6 GB at disposal then. However, keep in mind that 16 GB version costs $69.99 – $20 more than for 8 GB.
And remember, that Amazon Fire 7 has a microSD card slot, so you can increase the memory by up to 128 GB.
I’ve made a quick research on localized Amazon sites, and the new Fire 7 is available in most of them. In Germany and other European stores (except the UK), the 8 GB version costs EUR59.99, and the 16 GB – EUR69.99. The price difference between storage versions is not that big as in the US.
Unlike Kindle Oasis, the improved Amazon Fire 7 and other 2015 Fire tablets are not available for international customers of Amazon US.
Amazon Fire 7 comes with Fire OS 5 Bellini. That means you should be able to use comfortably the device in the evening. Blue Shade, an exclusive feature of Bellini OS, limits exposure to blue light. Thanks to that the display will get warmer colors so that you can enjoy reading a book or a newspaper without straining your eyes.
And the last thing. As the dimensions of the device have not changed, all Amazon Fire 7 case covers in this list will fit the 2016 version.
