Why students should keep reading books during the summer (infographic)

The summer slide means that some students might become a bit worse at reading and other school skills during the summer when there’s no school.

When kids don’t practice what they learned for a while, they might forget some of it. That’s why it’s important to keep learning and practicing during the summer.

Mackin, an online platform that provides educational resources and solutions for schools, libraries, and educators, has released an infographic that shows what happens when students stop reading during the summer break.

The average student loses up to 34% of the prior year’s learning gains during the holidays.

What’s more, students who have experienced summer learning slide over the years are on average two years behind their peers.
