Statista has just released a chart that compares the preferred book formats among adult Americans.
The chart shows that printed books are still the most popular book format among adults in the United States.
70% of adults say that they read print books the most, with 39% of those consumers preferring their books to be new.
The popularity of ebooks and audiobooks is stable. 25% of adults say that they prefer to read ebooks, while 5% of respondents claim that they listen to audiobooks.
The chart is based on a survey that was held between March and April 2020, the time when the U.S. went into lockdown to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
Although the virus certainly affected media consumption in the United States, it did not change consumers’ book preferences.
💬 Print has always been the most popular book format in the U.S. and figures on increased media consumption during the pandemic showed that even Gen Z, a generation famed for loving digital, were the most likely to be reading books more than usual during the outbreak.
