Kobo Plus ebook subscription launches with 50,00 titles and €9.99 monthly fee

New ebook subscription, launched by Kobo and Bol.com, is available in Belgium and the Netherlands for a monthly fee of €9.99.

On February 22, 2017, Kobo ebookstore announced the launch of the new ebook subscription service.

Called Kobo Plus, the service was developed in partnership with an online store from Benelux, Bol.com. For the time being it’s available only to customers in the Netherlands and Belgium.

Just like in other ebook subscription services, naming only Kindle Unlimited, new Kobo Plus users will enjoy 30-day free trial. After that period, the fee of €9.99 (around $10.50) will be applied every month.

You can unsubscribe anytime. You’ll still use the service until the end of the current billing period. After that time, your Kobo Plus account will be automatically closed.

To start Kobo Plus ebook subscription, you’ll have to sign up with your Kobo or Bol.com account. You can connect up to five devices.

At launch, the number of Kobo Plus titles was around 40,000. The catalog grows pretty quickly. Two weeks forward and we see almost 50,000 publications. 30,000 are in English, 16,000 in Dutch. There are also titles in 30 other languages, including German, Italian, Portuguese, and Japanese.

Pieter Swinkels, Executive Vice-President, Rakuten Kobo, says:

Kobo Plus allows readers to effortlessly discover new authors and try out new genres that they might not otherwise try, encouraging people to read more.

The selection of titles for Kobo Plus is a result of collaboration with leading Dutch publishers. Among the most attractive titles in the catalog, are the Millennium series novels by Stieg Larsson and David Lagercrantz. The fifth book, planned for September 2017, will also be added to Kobo Plus catalog.

Kindle Unlimited allows downloading no more than 10 books to the connected device. Kobo Plus also has this limitation – you can keep up to 15 titles for offline reading.

The service is available on Kobo e-readers and tablets (Kobo Mini and older models and excluded), Kobo apps for iOS (iPhone and iPad) and Android, as well as Kobo desktop application.
