In a yesterday’s press release, Amazon announced the newest addition to the ever-increasing family of own devices.

And this time it’s not a new Echo smart speaker or Fire tablet. It’s the new Paperwhite!
The 4th-generation Paperwhite (and 10th in general) will start shipping on November 7, 2018, in the US, but you can already pre-order it.
The launch price of Kindle Paperwhite 4 is set at $129.99, which is $10 more than the predecessor. However, having in mind all the improvements and new features, it is fully justified. Just look at the highlights below.
The 4th-generation Paperwhite:
- is waterproof – IPX8 rating,
- is Audible-ready – has Bluetooth module,
- has bigger internal memory – 8 or 32 GB,
- is thinner and lighter than Paperwhite 3,
- has a glass front,
- comes with six months of Kindle Unlimited for free.
The newest Paperwhite sports the same proven 6-inch 1448 × 1072 px E-Ink Carta touchscreen which guarantees crisp text and high contrast.
Besides the display, everything seems to get changed. That’s good. It was the highest time to upgrade the Paperwhite to keep the Kindle brand in the loop.
The look has been dramatically improved due to the use of a glass screen. Now you get the e-reader that looks like the Voyage – for half the price.

Most importantly, the new 4th-generation Kindle Paperwhite is waterproof. It can withstand immersion in 2 meters of fresh water for up to 60 minutes. I can’t imagine you can forget taking the Paperwhite out of the water after having a bath, but cleaning the device is now safer and stress-free.
The Bluetooth chip will enable you to connect headphones or a speaker, and this is a way to listen to Audible audiobooks on your new Kindle Paperwhite.
The software includes a simple Audible player. You can play both audiobooks purchased in the Audible Store and audiobook companions bought for Kindle books you already own.
The next thing – very important for everyone who likes to listen to audiobooks, read comics or magazines – is a larger internal memory. You can choose between 8 and 32 GB. The options are similar to Oasis 2. The smaller memory variant will let you download dozens of audiobooks for offline playback.
It’s worth mentioning that the new Kindle Paperwhite is accompanied by a wide range of new case covers. Among them, you will find the cases that are made from the same water-safe fabric as the ones for the 2017 Oasis. It means you can treat the case with water and you won’t see any damage after it dries.
The last but highly exciting thing is the limited-time offer on Kindle Unlimited ebook subscription. With a purchase of Paperwhite, you get Kindle Unlimited free of charge for six months! The service costs $9.99 per month, so you save $60.
