The 2018 Apple iPad Pro models were released together with original accessories that are meant to enhance your creativity and productivity seamlessly.
Both Smart Folio and Smart Keyboard Folio are a considerable upgrade, but the most interesting accessory is the 2nd-generation Apple Pencil.
Apple’s newest stylus is not cheap (it costs well over $100) but sports a few features users are excited to try.
One of them is extremely helpful: you can charge Apple Pencil 2 without the cable. The only thing to do is to attach the pen to the right side of the Pro. It will stick thanks to magnets that are built both into the iPad and the pen.
The moment the Apple Pencil 2 is attached to the iPad, it immediately starts to recharge. If you do it for the first time, it will immediately begin to pair.
If you have bought Apple Pencil 2 or are going to do so in the future, please make sure the case you buy supports wireless charging and pairing.
We’ve rounded up the most reliable third-party cases that you can find on Amazon and that are compatible with wireless charging of the 2nd-generation Apple Pencil. You will see below not only the affordable alternatives to Apple Smart Folio or tri-fold designs but also heavy-duty cases and keyboard folio covers.
Where possible, we link to cases designed for both size versions, either the 11-inch or 12.9-inch iPad Pro (2018).
Best iPad Pro 2018 covers that support wireless Apple Pencil charging and pairing
1. Ztotop stand case – Smart Folio alternative
If the original Apple Smart Folio for the 2018 iPad Pro models is for you too expensive, here is the case that offers similar features but is a few times cheaper.
Ztotop ultra-slim case cover is available for both the 11 and 12.9-inch iPad Pro. It attaches magnetically to the back of the tablet, leaving the sides open. Thanks to that, you can easily attach your Apple Pencil 2 and wirelessly pair or recharge it.
The tri-fold front will let you turn the iPad into a horizontal stand for writing or drawing or vertical one for viewing movies or making presentations.
The case is available in up to eight colors, including Light Green, Purple, and Rose Gold.
2. ESR marble tri-fold stand case
The problem with Apple Smart Folio is that it doesn’t protect the edges of the iPad Pro as it’s kept in place by magnets in the back side of the tablet.
To give extra corner protection, you can get any third-party case that holds the iPad within the sturdy back shell.
A good thing about the case offered by ESR is that the back-shell is semi-transparent, letting you show off the beauty of the iPad all the time.
The case is available in a design that resembles the white marble – one of the most popular case patterns this season.
3. Zugu magnetic stand heavy-duty case
You can hardly find heavy-duty iPad Pro 2018 cases that support wireless charging and pairing of the Apple Pencil 2. It’s because leaving the right side of the case open is against the 360-degree protection these cases should guarantee.
Zugu Muse Series cover is one of few exceptions. It’s a heavy-duty case and features a unique magnetic stand and is compatible with Apple Pencil charging.
The convenient built-in magnetic stand offers as much as ten angles. With the grooves on the front and a Zugu logo above them, the case looks like being taken from a car design studio.
The rugged bumper shell provides 360-degree 5 ft drop protection. A row on the right side is where you can place Apple Pencil for charging. What’s more, there is a second stylus holder on the back side.
4. Timovo 360-degree rotating stand case
Are you looking for the classic 360-degree rotating stand for your 2018 iPad Pro? Besides multiple angles, the case enables users to put the iPad not only horizontally, but also the portrait mode.
Timovo offers the versions for both the 11 and 12.9-inch size. The case supports wireless Apple Pencil charging and auto sleep/wake. Although it’s a solid folio case, you’ll be surprised to notice how slim it is.
Available in a few colors, including Purple, Red, and a popular design called “Luck Tree.”
5. Juqitech fabric tri-fold stand case
The case from Juqitech offers the standard tri-fold stand functionality. It also supports wireless charging and pairing of the Apple Pencil on the right side, while having a built-in stylus holder on the left side.
What makes this case for the 2018 iPad Pro models interesting is the material. It looks like a worn-out fabric, possibly denim, and it covers not only the front but also the back.
Another benefit worth highlighting is the honeycomb structure of the back shell that is designed to cool the iPad faster.
6. Fintie keyboard stand case
There are not too many third-party keyboard cases for 2018 iPad Pro models.
Fintie offers a reliable, proven Bluetooth keyboard case with a book-style design and wireless Apple Pencil charging support.
The real hard laptop-style keyboard is magnetically detachable. It’s made of premium-quality ABS. A gentle mechanism under each key guarantees a tactile response with every stroke.
Available in six colors and patterns, including Composition Box, Rose Gold, and Blossom.
7. Infiland slim stand cover
From Infiland comes one of the best third-party case covers that are designed specifically for the 2018 Apple iPad Pro, both the 11 and 12.9-inch variant.
The case is slim, lightweight, and offers a stable tri-fold design thanks to which you can turn it into a stand, either horizontal or vertical.
The only problem I have is the big heavily embossed logo in the bottom right corner. Luckily, it’s not placed in all color variants.
8. DTTO ultra-strong tri-fold case
Here is another third-party case design available on Amazon that offers similar functionality as the original Apple Smart Folio.
The case attaches easily with 102 strong magnets aligned precisely on the back side. It supports auto sleep/wake function and can be turned into a horizontal or vertical stand thanks to a tri-fold structure of the front cover.
The producer claims the case is “ultra strong.” It’s made of durable synthetic leather (outside), combined with color-matching microfiber (inside).
Depending on the version, you can get the case in Navy Blue, Rose Gold, or Black.
Bonus: Maxboost tempered glass screen protector
Maybe you don’t desperately need a leather sleeve, but to give your iPad Pro a minimum level of protection, you should get the screen protector.
The one offered on Amazon by Maxboost is made of extremely thin 0.33 mm tempered glass to fully preserve the original touch sensitivity of the iPad’s display.
The screen protector is compatible with Apple Pencil – the stylus will glide seamlessly over its surface just like it does directly on the screen.
Ultra clarity “helps with fading and glare for a natural iPad experience.”

Where to buy iPad Pro cases and accessories
More and more cases for the 11-inch iPad Pro released in 2018 are being revealed every day. Make sure to visit these online stores to have more options to choose from:
Amazon – the biggest online store offers the biggest selection of all kinds of case covers and accessories. If we had to pick one web destination for everything related to tablet and e-reader accessories, it would be Amazon.
Best Buy – the range of offered accessories is pretty limited, but the online store is worth checking out if you want to buy cases and accessories at reduced prices.
eBay – a proven place to shop for affordable accessories. Sometimes, you can pick up here the case that’s the same as the branded one you’ve found on Amazon but costs two-thirds of the price.
Etsy – this is our favorite marketplace for custom items, hand-crafted to order. There are a plenty of unique sleeves and jackets to choose from. Most of them are handmade, many can be personalized.

Apple Pencil 2, 2018 release
All-new seamless design
The new Apple Pencil is designed to be comfortable and natural to use. Now you can double-tap the area where your finger rests to change from brush to pen to highlighter with ease. The matte finish makes it easy to hold, like a classic writing tool, and the seamless design — no connectors or moving parts — makes it easy to store.
Magically pair. Wirelessly charge
The new Apple Pencil starts charging when you place the flat part on the right side of your iPad Pro. It also pairs automatically with your device. And you can charge your iPad Pro and Apple Pencil at the same time. Magic, right? It’s actually magnets, but we’ll take it.
Tap to unlock new capabilities
The new Apple Pencil lets you change brush sizes or modes with a double-tap right where your finger rests. And you can customize your taps to easily switch between the tools you use most.
The ideal tool for artists of every kind
Apple Pencil helps you express your creative ideas. Whether you’re painting a watercolor, designing an interior, or retouching layers of a photo, Apple Pencil brings your visions to life.
Highly responsive. Perfectly precise
Apple Pencil is the best tool to reach for when you need pixel‑perfect precision. Draw anything down to a single pixel, from a technical illustration to a fine portrait — with wispy hair lines and all. Press harder for thicker lines, lighter for thinner ones. Create shading simply by tilting your Apple Pencil. All with virtually no lag between what you write and what you see.
Use it effortlessly
Tap your iPad Pro display with Apple Pencil to wake up your device and open the Notes app. You can even rest your palm on the display and it won’t register as a mark, so you can use it just like a pad of paper.
