Look what happens when archival images are released to the public for free use.
New York based designer and art director Kevin Weir creates ghostly vintage animated gifs in a collection called “The Flux Machine”. He finds the raw material for the animations in the Library of Congress Flickr photostream.
As Christopher Jobson from This Is Colossal puts it:
Weir […] is deeply drawn to what he calls “unknowable places and persons,” images with little connection to present day that he can use as blank canvas for his weird ideas.
The collection is growing, and you can follow it via The Flux Machine on Tumblr.
