Amazon KDP self-publishers can’t publish more than 3 books a day, after AI concerns

On September 18, 2023, Amazon announced on KDP forum that it would be limiting self-publishers to three books per day, citing concerns about using artificial intelligence (AI) in publishing.

Previously, there was no limit to the number of books KDP authors could publish a day, but the current limit is set to three, Amazon told the Guardian.

The company said that it will review the new limit on a regular basis and may make adjustments in the future.

Amazon said that it is implementing the new limit to protect readers and to ensure that the Kindle Direct Publishing platform remains a high-quality source of books.

💬 While we have not seen a spike in our publishing numbers, in order to help protect against abuse, we are lowering the volume limits we have in place on new title creations. Very few publishers will be impacted by this change and those who are will be notified and have the option to seek an exception.

The three-book limits comes a few days after Amazon’s announcement of the new guidelines requiring authors to disclose if their work includes AI content in books.

The new limit has been met with mixed reactions from self-publishers. Some publishers have welcomed the move, saying that it will help to improve the quality of books on the KDP platform.

Others have criticized the limit, saying that it is unfair and will disproportionately impact small publishers.
