Books are about escaping from reality and traveling to distant places without leaving a comfortable chair.

You can take this adventure to a whole new level. Escape the reality, buy the ticket, and see for yourself the place you created in your imagination.

Very often, book authors or movie creators don’t explicitly state what real locations have inspired them to create fictional worlds. The infographic tries to combine available info to provide the rationale for the fictional-real match.

The usual pattern is to pick up the locations which were chosen for movie adaptations.

Film director Peter Jackson chose Mount Tongariro as Mordor in a movie adaptation of The Lord of the Rings. Glencoe, Scotland, was used as a filming location for The Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardy.
