Exactly at the moment joint conference of Samsung and Barnes & Noble started, the latter company sent out an email to their subscribers, announcing the new Nook-branded tablet.
The tablet is based on the 7-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab 4. It has a customized, Nook-centered software. The companies call the device “the award-winning reading experience integrated with a full-featured, high-performance tablet.” Galaxy Tab is not the fullest-featured Samsung tablet series, though.
With tablet tools for everyday use and an endless collection of reading and entertainment options, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Nook lets readers connect to the world when they need to, and escape from it whenever they want.
The announcement day is the launch day. Galaxy Tab 4 Nook is available now for $179 $199. You’ll get an instant $20 rebate at the time of purchase. The price of the Nook-branded tablet is the same as the current price of a regular Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 (was $199 on a launch day in May, but now reduced by $20).
Compared to $300 of free content every regular Galaxy Tab 4 comes with, the Nook offers $200. However, it’s the content exclusively from the Nook Store – “bestselling books, magazines, and TV shows absolutely free, plus a $5 starter credit.”

Although the tablet’s images leaked from Samsung website before the announcement, the device is not available there yet. Instead, there are only support and download files, what may suggest that Galaxy Tab 4 Nook won’t be sold by Samsung at all.
I haven’t spotted any hardware differences between Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 and its Nook mirror device. Both feature 1280 x 800 screen in WXGA technology, with a 16:10 screen ratio. They are powered by 1.2 GHz processor, have 1.3MP front plus 3MP rear-facing camera, and 1.5GB RAM memory.
Two color versions of Galaxy Tab 4 Nook are on sale: white and black. What’s very nice, Barnes & Noble learned the lesson of Nook GlowLight cases and accessories. The tablet comes with two series of accessories:
- 2-Way Cover Stand – four colors to choose from: Midnight, Leaf, Violet, and Pink,
- Kimono Sleeve – four colors to choose from: Emerald, Lagoon, Sangria, and Charcoal.
