What are Top 5 most gifted books of 2018 and how do they compare to what readers wanted to receive as gifts?

Michelle Obama’s Becoming was the most gifted book of 2018, according to Amazon. Was it also the book most people wished to receive?

The turn of the year is the time when dozens of annual charts and lists are being released, letting users find the best books to fill their new year resolutions and meet reading challenges.

A few days ago, Amazon revealed This Year in Books – an annual list of most sold, quotable, and unputdownable books (print, Kindle, and Audible). It’s the easiest and most entertaining way to explore the world of books in 2018.

We’ve covered most sold books of 2018 already (in fiction and nonfiction), but there are other interesting charts in This Year in Books, as well. One of them ranks the books that were most gifted in 2018. Every title – no matter in which format – that was ordered on Amazon with an option to send it as a gift was counted in the ranking.

It turns out the biggest book gift of 2018 was a memoir by Michelle Obama, Becoming. The book was released in November – early enough to become the most gifted book for Christmas, outpacing Michael Wolff’s Fire and Fury, Magnolia Table by Joanna Gaines & March Stets, and Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis.

Was Becoming also the book most Amazon customers added to their wish lists in 2018? Michelle Obama’s memoir made it to the Top 5, but it’s the explosive book by celebrated blogger Rachel Hollis, Girl, Wash Your Face, to open the list.

Which book have you received for Christmas? Was in on your list of books to read?
