Social network for poets and poetry lovers, My Poetic Side, has created an infographic that researches the deaths of over 200 poets.
The team at My Poetic Side has investigated the life of 239 poets across the past six centuries, trying to find the reasons behind their death.
It’s not alcohol or drugs that caused the death of most poets. It’s cancer (12%). 4% of the investigated poets committed a suicide. 2% were executed.
As much as 12% died of unknown reasons:
This can be because there is some mystery surrounding their death. However, in most cases, it is because it can be difficult to clarify information from the centuries ago, as a lot of the data is ambiguous.
