To the surprise of most Kindle fans, none of the latest-generation Kindle models got a price cut this Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
Amazon’s decision is highly unexpected, having in mind that for a few years in a row at least two Kindle models were on sale: the basic Kindle and Kindle Paperwhite.
This year, the biggest deal was – and still is – offered on the previous-generation Kindle Paperwhite. You can get the ad-free version for $79.99 and save $60 (43% off), but is the model that was hot in 2015 a deal breaker in 2018? I think it’s not.
I was hoping to see the $20 discount on the newest waterproof and Audible-ready Paperwhite (4th-generation, 2018), especially that the very same model was deeply discounted for Black Friday & Cyber Monday in Amazon stores across Europe.
It turns out users in the US are so keen to grab the new waterproof and Audible-ready e-reader that Amazon decided not to give it an even symbolic price cut.
But here is an alternative. On Cyber Monday 2018 and through Saturday, December 1, you can grab Kindle Paperwhite 4 Essentials Bundle and save almost $80:
- save $20 on the bundle itself – the bundle includes, besides the Paperwhite, the original Amazon leather case cover worth
$39.99, and the original Kindle power adapter worth $19.99,
- save $60 on Kindle Unlimited – each Kindle Paperwhite, also the one sold in a bundle, comes with 6 months of free Kindle Unlimited subscription. It means you don’t pay a penny for a subscription that’s normally worth
$59.94for 6 months of use.
If you bought the elements of the bundle separately, you’d pay
$189.97, and you’d pay extra $59.94 for the Kindle Unlimited subscription. A total cost would be then $249.91. Instead, the Kindle Paperwhite 4 (2018) Essentials Bundle costs $169.97.
Obviously, this deal makes sense for users who are determined to save on Kindle Unlimited, and activate it before the end of January 2019.
Like it or not, this is the best Kindle deal this shopping season.
More about Kindle Paperwhite 4 (2018)
The 4th-generation (10th-generation overall) Kindle Paperwhite was launched on November 7, 2018. It has a sleek new look with an edge-to-edge glass front, sporting the same crisp display as the previous generation – 1448 × 1072 px, 6-inch E-Ink Carta touchscreen, with 330 ppi pixel density.
The new e-reader is waterproof. With IPX8 water resistance badge, it can withstand immersion in 2 meters of fresh water for up to 60 minutes.
Kindle Paperwhite 4 is ready to play audiobooks via connected Bluetooth earphones or speakers. The e-reader’s software comes with a simple Audible player. What you have to remember is that the device supports only Audible audiobooks.
You can choose from two storage options: 8 or 32 GB. The latter one will let you download at least 150 Audible audiobooks for offline playback.
Last but not least, the new Kindle Paperwhite comes with the best Kindle Unlimited deal that was ever offered. You can get six months of this popular digital subscription free of charge, if you sign up by the end of January 2019.
