Demographics of e-reader and tablet ownership is changing

According to a new study from Nielsen, on demographics of connected devices, we observe that both tablets and e-readers are adopted by older users.

Back in Q3 2010, for example, 62 percent of tablet owners were under the age of 34 and only 10 percent were over the age of 55. By Q2 2011, only 46 percent of tablet owners were under the age of 34 and the percentage of those over 55 had increased to 19 percent.

On a graph below you’ll also see that in the second quarter of 2011 as much as 51% of tablet owners were 35 or older, comparing to 38% in Q3 2010.

65% of e-reader owners are 35+ and as much as one-third is aged 55 and older.

The study is clearly a signal that the connected devices are smoothly moving from early adopters stage to mainstream.
