Nothing like this will happen. We’ll be buying fewer print books, but will select them very carefully – as they will be the essence of who we are.
Bookshelves will not disappear as well. They will be smaller, sure thing.
No longer there is need to store 1,000 physical books, if their digital versions can be kept on one small device like the Kindle or Nook.
Bookshelves will essentially become much more creative, and their role in our life won’t change a bit – they are and will be our brain’s manifesto (and it’s hard to manifest what you read by showing a small device like the Kindle or Nook).
