Books make a difference in kids’ lives (infographic)

First Book is a nonprofit social enterprise that provides new books to kids in need. They have just published an interesting infographic that looks at how books shape education.

The starting point is staggering: in low-income community there is 1 book per 300 children – and there are 13 books per 1 child in an upper-middle income community. This inevitably leads to how many kids graduate from high school.

First Book has distributed more than 100 million books and educational resources to programs and schools serving children from low-income families throughout the United States and Canada.  By making new, high-quality books available on an ongoing basis, First Book is transforming the lives of children in need and elevating the quality of education.
