Amazon Publishing has acquired a ten-year license to the entire list of the 14 classic James Bond novels by Ian Fleming, both in print and ebook.
The agreement also includes Fleming’s two works of non-fiction: a collection of travel writings Thrilling Cities and an expose of the illegal precious stones trade under the title The Diamond Smugglers.
All of the titles will be republished beginning this summer by Amazon’s imprint Thomas & Mercer. The rights are bought for North America only, so foreign users won’t enjoy affordable prices Amazon will surely offer. All books from Thomas & Mercer cost less than 10 dollars. The most expensive titles are priced $7.99.
The James Bond series includes: Casino Royale (which will celebrate 60 years of publication next year), Live and Let Die, Moonraker, Diamonds Are Forever, From Russia with Love, Dr. No, Goldfinger, For your Eyes Only, Thunderball, The Spy Who Loved Me, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, You Only Live Twice, The Man With The Golden Gun, and Octopussy and the Living Daylights.
Until now the books have sold over 100 million copies worldwide and have been the inspiration behind the world’s longest-running film franchise.
“We are devoted fans of Fleming’s Bond novels here at Amazon Publishing, and we’re thrilled these books–already known across the world and across generations–will continue to flourish under our Thomas & Mercer imprint,” says Philip Patrick, Director, Business Development, Rights and Licensing. “Amazon Publishing offers signature authors a new life for great backlist titles. Fleming is the perfect fit.”
