News: Amazon Android Appstore comes to UK, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain

Amazon knows how to build tension before the big announcement day on September 6. A new press release has just been added to their press room, and it’s a long-awaited news: Amazon Android Appstore finally comes outside United States.
According to press release, Amazon Appstore has been already launched in five European countries: United Kngdom, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain. They are the same countries where customers can already shop in localized Kindle Stores.
Bringing Kindle Fire model(s) to these 5 countries now makes more sense, as at least part of the content will be available (Kindle ebooks and Android apps). Therefore, we can expect such announcement during the Amazon press conference.
What is very important, the content of each Amazon Android Appstore, as well as mobile storefront, will be adjusted to specific country, just like in case of Kindle Store.
The great news is that features like Free App of the Day will be also available for European customers, no handicap here. The only question is whether the featured apps will also be localized. This is what happens with Kindle Daily Deal – in each country the ebook deal feature was launched already, but in each one a different book is featured.
I hope Free App of the Day in every localized Amazon Android Appstore will be delivered via RSS feed. In the US it’s part of Amazon Gold Box feed. You can easily extract the app from the feed and get it delivered every day via email, using the IFTTT recipe I’ve created.
To encourage European customers, today’s free app is ad-free version of Angry Birds (a regular price is $0.99).
You can get the Amazon Appstore for your phone/tablet by visiting www.amazon.com/getappstore. Don’t get scared with the video and “the eight easy steps”. You’ll have to do it only once, and then get things work seamlessly.
What just Amazon did reminds me of the Angry Birds screenshot above – but instead of three, five birds are hitting at the same time.
