How to read Adobe DRM ebooks on Kindle Fire

You can feed Kindle Fire not only with ebooks from Kindle Store, but also from other sources, even those ones using DRM from Adobe (what is DRM?).

Now it’s easier than you think. For some time Amazon was hiding other ereading apps in Kindle Fire, but it has just changed. There’s no need to hack or root anything. What you need is a proper application from Amazon Android AppStore.

I recommend two Android apps with Adobe DRM support.

One of them is Aldiko Book Reader. It’s in my opinion the best ereading app for Android. It includes book catalogs from Feedbooks and BooksOnBoard (the second one with over 400,000 titles), but you can also import your own ebook files, in epub and pdf format.

Aldiko comes in free and paid version. Consider buying Aldiko Premium to support its developers.

The other application is Bluefire Reader. It’s a free app, also supports epub and pdf formats, contains internal book catalogs (Feedbooks and more) and you can import your own files, including the ones with DRM from Adobe.

No matter which app you’ll decide to use, first thing you should do is to authorize the app with your Adobe ID – the same as the one you used to buy and download ebooks so far.

Adding Adobe DRM books could make sense if you have bought them already and want to switch the device or ebookstore. Booksellers using Adobe system are for instance Barnes & Noble, Kobo or Sony. Kobo application is available in Amazon AppStore, but Nook is not.

Please note, that apps from Amazon AppStore are available only to customers located in Unites States. If you live outside US and were hoping for third-party apps delivering content from your local ebookstore – this doesn’t work yet.

There are almost 2,700 book and comic apps in Amazon AppStore. It’s good to check them out.
