Kindle ebooks by price: more than 100,000 cost $0.99 [charts]

As promised, here is a post with Kindle ebooks split by price. I’ve been using Jungle Search to collect data from Kindle Store US.

I can’t promise 100% accuracy of this tool. However, I’ve checked search results in specific price range and haven’t found any books with prices out of this range.

Total number of ebooks in Kindle Store is 1,049,804, including 15, 903 public domain free titles. if you want to know how many books cost $9.99 and less – here’s the number: as much as 892,849!

I’ve prepared two charts to give you an idea of price levels. Chart 1 summarizes all books, with minimum interval of 5 dollars. The second chart is focused on showing the split of books priced from $0 to $4.99.

Over 127,000 books are priced below $1. If you take out those 16,000 free books you still have well over 100k books which cost less than a cup of coffee. You can go and search them in Kindle Store right from this link:

Interesting thing in a second chart is that there are not a lot of books with a price between 1 and 2 dollars. This can be explained by the way authors who publish via Amazon’s self-publishing platform are rewarded. If they want to receive 70% of revenues they can set the price at no less than $2.99. Otherwise they will receive 30% – so if they go for it, they want to be as competitive as possible – and the lowest possible price they can sell is $0.99.
